FAQ
Who operates ProtectMedicalData.org and why?
ProtectMedicalData.org is a non-profit initiative established to protect the data of small and medium-sized medical institutions that are vulnerable to cyberattacks. Led by FilingCloud, the developer of international standards for data protection, the initiative includes participation from PC repair shops, MSPs (Managed Service Providers), storage hardware manufacturers, ICT training institutions, government agencies, and international organizations.
ProtectMedicalData.org provides storage protection software developed based on international standards, along with training programs, free of charge exclusively to medical institutions. Above all, it offers software installation and training programs so that even non-IT professionals in small hospitals can use the technology effectively.
Why focus on small hospitals and non-hospital medical institutions?
Small hospitals and non-hospital medical institutions are highly vulnerable to sophisticated cyberattacks due to limited budgets and a lack of specialized staff. They are particularly at risk when operating medical systems in on-premise environments where cloud migration is difficult. This initiative supports small and medium-sized hospitals, clinics, public health centers, nursing homes, dental clinics, and oriental medicine clinics, which often lack cybersecurity infrastructure and face challenges in moving to the cloud.
Which medical institutions are currently using ProtectMedicalData.org’s security solutions?
Small and medium-sized medical institutions with limited information security infrastructure are experiencing tangible benefits, and the number of participating institutions continues to grow. However, to prevent these institutions from becoming direct targets of hackers, ProtectMedicalData.org has decided not to disclose their names on the website.
Is the license free of charge?
Yes. Small and medium-sized hospitals or non-hospital medical institutions (such as clinics and oriental medicine clinics) may use the solution free of charge for the purpose of protecting medical data. (Only the storage protection software is provided; hardware required to run the software is not included.)

Our institution uses a cloud-based system. Do we still need this solution?
While ProtectMedicalData.org’s storage protection solutions are optimized for on-premise environments, they can also be useful in cloud environments. If all hospital data is already stored in the cloud, storage protection can still be applied within the cloud system.
Does ProtectMedicalData.org receive our institution’s data or personal information?
No. The provided storage protection software is installed and operated on hospital devices in an on-premise environment. No hospital files or personal information are transmitted to any third party.
I want to participate in the mission. How can I join?
Medical institutions can join through the Join as a Medical Institution option under the Join menu at the top right. PC repair shops, MSPs, security companies, and educational institutions can participate through the Join as a Supporting Organization option in the same menu.
